A Beka Curriculum The curriculum that we use at our school is the A Beka curriculum for Pre-K
thru 5th grade. This curriculum is written and produced out of Pensacola,
Florida. It is a treasury of textbooks and teaching materials that reflect the very
best in scholarship, design, practicality, and Scriptural fidelity. |
|
| |
|
|
A Beka's formula for success is as follows: |
|
| |
| 1. |
A Scriptural foundation for acedemic excellence and good character training. |
 |
| 2. |
The practical experience of 50 years of leadership in Christian school education. |
 |
| 3. |
The professional expertise of dedicated scholars, educators, designers, and printers. |
 |
| 4. |
The personal attention of administrators, consultants, and service personnel. |
|
| |
|
|
|
| |
This curriculum is an outstanding curriculum. It is one that is aggressive in the
amount of material taught and challenging to the average child. We have
found that with parental support at home, many of our students excel in their
academics. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
Each and every child in our school is presented the material for the lesson
each day in the classroom. In this curriculum, daily lesson plans are provided
for the teacher with teaching suggestions. Each child is to do the
corresponding papers that go with the lesson in the time provided in school.
If the student does not complete the work during the day, it is sent home.
Homework is also assigned depending on what the curriculum calls for to be
sent home for that day's lesson. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
Every student's papers are checked each day, and daily work goes home
throughout the week or the workbooks may be taken home for parents to view.
Graded tests are sent home periodically for parents to view, sign, and return
or they are made available in the classroom for parents to view. This is done
for the parents so we can stay in close contact with them about the success of
their child. |

CCS 2007 Stanford Achievement Test Results
Each year, Cornerstone evaluates all Kindergarten through 5th grade students' academic progress using the nationally standardized and graded Stanford Achievement Tests (SAT). Year after year, Cornerstone's tradition of high academic achievement continues.
The SAT test is designed to evaluate student progress as compared with students in public and private schools across the nation. Cornerstone's test results are listed below.
The results are listed by "Grade Equivalent". A result of 3.8 means third grade, eighth month; 1.3 means first grade, third month. To compare
Cornerstone results with nationally standardized results, realize our tests are given during the eighth month of a school year. Therefore, to be averaged nationally, a third grade student, it is assumed, should test 3.8; a first grader, 1.8, etc. (Example: a third grader scoring 5.7 in Math means the student performed as well as an average fifth grader. This means the third grader can read her third grade material as well as the average fifth grader can read the same third grade material.)
The SAT test is comprised of several sections, but for space considerations, only closely watched Math, Language, Reading, and Total Battery scores are listed below. |

Parent/teacher conferences are set
either by parents request or
teachers request throughout the year when there is a concern. The
concern is then evaluated to
determine if extra help is necessary. If extra help is determined to be
needed, help is extended to the child
by the teacher, the teacher's aide,
and our in school tutoring. Our tutor
on staff does work with the students'
one on one. Our school does take learning concerns very serious; our
desire and goal is for every child to
be successful. |
